Ask HN: Good resources for getting up to speed with current politics situation?
I went on a general media/news freeze about a year ago because I just found it distracting and upsetting most of the time. Now it's only sports and tech that I keep up on, nothing political really.
That being said, I did vote yesterday in America, and I was a little blindsided by the outcome of the election results, as it seems a lot of others were.
Does anyone have good recommendations for understanding the political world leading up to the last few years? Ideally book, ideally objective (ish) books. Anything that could help me to get a better understanding of why all signs pointed to one outcome (at least in my echo chamber, it seems), but the opposite outcome became reality.
Also, is it worth subscribing to something like the Economist to at least stay mildly up to date on this stuff? Or just fuck it? Personal anecdotes from people in similar situations would be appreciated.
