Nest should do this across their whole product line.
For Dropcam, No pay? We're gonna put your house up as a live feed for others to watch.
Including Nest protect.
No pay? No smoke/CO alarm for you.
Nest may have figured they could build a larger ecosystem in the IoT and Smart Home space and charge monthly at some later point but didn't materialize.
Still love my Nest. Sexy, smart, set-and-forget. But we only mingle in the winter.
I am not shitting on nest here, but I will say there are others out there now who are as or more intelligent though definitely none as sexy.
