Ask HN: Useful anthro-ish survey of differing concepts of free speech?
The more I look at free speech issues, the more I realize that different people mean very different things by the term.
I'm looking for a book (or perhaps a blog post series) that takes an anthropological look at theories of free speech. That is, I am not looking for something written by a person pushing a particular theory. Instead, I'd like to find someone who talks to people from different schools of thought, writes reasonably neutrally about their concepts, and talks about the people as people, trying to understand what motivates their different approaches.
Anybody seen something like that?
