Ask HN: Would anyone be interested in a modular BSP(Board Support Packages)
I work as an embedded software engineer, I work at the bsp level. During my experience I have came across a lot of unstructured code available for free by famous board vendors,(in their sdks). I was thinking as a simple side project, of taking that code, and combining it in such a way that it works out of the box like a library. That way one can simply see steps taking place in configuring, say a display driver.
The way its mostly organized in a large code base is to give way to kernel, processors and memory initialization. But for hobbyists, they don't want it to scale they just want to configure something for prototyping purposes and see if something makes sense....
I have seen a lot of linux code and it makes sense for linux but for a hobbyist it becomes very difficult to go into multiple hierarchies to find out what a certain call does...
So the bsp or driver should be imported as a simple library, if you want to configure the i2c controller you simply call it from the application and use whatever kernel you want to use....
I know its a little out there, but just wanted to know if anyone would be interested in such a project.
P.S. Did I mention it would be open source...ergo my need to ask for interest....
cheers, faizan
