I didn't realize that you could do something like:
vim <(find . | grep coolfile)
until just the other week, pretty dang useful.
This takes whatever is piped in and loads it into the quickfix list. So I get locations out of anything with lines of the format "file:line: something" or "file:line:col: something".
Eg: git grep -n | cbuf
diff <(tar tzf f1.tgz) <(tar tzf f2.tgz)
Or diffs of diffs: diff <(git diff --cached) the-patch-alice-proposed
