Ask HN: EBook Best Practices
1. Genre of your book(s)?
2. Distribution (Amazon, iBooks, print, etc...) and outcomes (% of sales)?
3. Pricing?
4. Marketing (if any)?
I previously posted https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10182723 about my Dad's project to transcribe ~600 letters after nearly a year he is set to publish volume 1 (not bad for an 82 year old who is legally blind). I am going to assist him with the distribution, so while I am formatting for (ePub and mobi) I thought I could get some HN insight/experiences to help on the next steps.
The current plan is distribute this non-fictional work through Amazon, Apple iBooks, and directly through the book's website (dearmomebook.com). There is no marketing budget, but from the prior HN post we gained 150 emails of interested readers so I plan to notify them when the book is available. The price is harder, my Dad has left that in my hands and the obvious balance is getting the book into the hands of the most readers while not sell my Dad short. Uniquely, I feel the largest market for his book is overseas Asia, South East Asia, and maybe in Russia...so perhaps audience demographic/nationality may be a beneficial bonus question if that information is readily available.
