Just yesterday and today I've spent hours debugging a segfault in VMware. During the course of that investigation, I've found (again) that after all these years, PulseAudio is still incapable of doing its job properly. It's both failed to play the sound its been given without mangling it (possibly a bitrate issue), and then it failed to mix it correctly, with an incoherent staticky jumble as the output. And yet, removing it results in a perfectly functional system! And this is one of the minor issues on a "current" system!
With iOS it starts with the very first interaction - swiping to unlock. I can't disable it. Android and Windows both let me disable this. I just want `instant on` for certain devices (like 8 inch tablets) that I don't generally carry around in my pocket. But no. The closest I can get with iOS is enabling "Touch ID to unlock" which doesn't work sporadically and has bad timing.
The main thing I do on my tablet is web browsing, but web browsing sucks on iOS compared to browsing on my Dell Venue Pro 8 with full Chrome and all the extensions that I want.
I really wish that I could get into using mobile apps, but they'll never replace the web for me and I just can't deal with the 2nd rate web browsing in iOS which is directly caused by Apple's policies.
