The concept of a long tail of less frequently useful features is intrinsic to software tooling. It's tempting to feel bad about only using the handful of primary git commands (status, add, commit, merge, branch, push, pull, log), but the reality is success in software development means applying exactly this mentality to most tools or technologies you encounter.
Figuring out exactly what you need to know to satisfactorily handle most situations (and then Googling the rest of the time) is just a smart way to be a developer.
