I'm a big fan of reforming the electoral system in the UK, but the AV referendum was an awful fudge at best, plainly just offered as a sop to the Liberal Democrats.

It was genuinely one of the worst referendum campaigns of all time though. I'm still haunted by the 'if you vote for this then babies will die' adverts.

That would have just brought UKIP into government with the Tories faster and accelerated the process.

The Alternative Vote was a stupid suggestion in any case. (A similar system doesn't work too well in Australia.)

Something like Approval Voting or even better range voting would have been worth it.
