Ask HN: Facebook trying to gather voters data

Hey I am not certain this goes under ask but I just had to as HN is one of the sites that I read daily and has a lot of people in here that are concerned about privacy.

So I live in the UK and today facebook was asking me if I am a voter and how will I vote on the Brexit.

Clearly they want to gather more data on me, but I find it shady that they are trying to create a profile on how I vote etc. And I think there should be a law in place so they wouldn't be able to do that with such an ease. I think the majority of people that use facebook are inexperienced and have no privacy concern. For them is just a simple question and answer that will share with their friend but won't understand that this will actually put them in a potential list and profile on how they vote.

Is this clearly unethical or am I just wrong here?
