Misunderstanding Trump's Appeal

Ya, most of the calls to label trump a racist don't hold much water.

* Opposing immigration whether you agree with it or not, is not inherently racist.

* Suggesting that people who immigrate illegally are more likely to be criminals than the general population is also not inherently racist.

* Opposing immigration of all muslims is flirting with racism (although islam is not a race), but it can be defended on an intellectual level (again, whether you believe those arguments or not). A very large percentage of the Muslim world holds pretty extreme views, and we do have an ongoing problem of those views turning radical and resulting in violence all over the western world. There are counter-arguments to this of course, but it doesn't make you a racist to identify this as a problem and propose the most obvious solution (ban their immigration).
