Yeah, I don't really follow the logic there.
Key points:
> His estimate — which is adjusted for the roughly 15,000 online orders that come in a typical day — jibes with a 20,000-per-hour figure published earlier by Silicon Alley Insider.
Alley Insider made two orders 30 minutes apart to come up with the 20k number, no mention of if they too accounted for the 15k "typical" daily orders (no clue when/where that 15k number comes from, what season, what point in a launch cycle, etc).

All in all it doesn't sound like very meaningful information, just fun headline material.
"Cracking the order numbers" does not count as accurate.
Assuming the IDs are sequential, anyway. Surely Apple isn't that dumb?
