"According to your DNA test, you need to eat less and exercise more. That'll be $5,000, please."
What control? Anybody taking part in a big important Stanford research project may be 2-3 times more likely to stick to their diet.
Everyone in the study was on a diet, but they put some people on the "wrong" diet for their genome. They were the control. The 2-3 times more weight lost was comparing those two groups in the study, not comparing to people outside of the study.
Technology's all well and good, but couldn't trying both diets for a few weeks each lead to the same results for a lot less cost?
If this DNA test is going to be useful to you, you actually do have to go on the diet at some point anyway!
I wish I could recode my DNA to make pizza my ideal diet...
While that is a good wish, I wish I could make Beer part of my ideal diet.
> I wish I could make Beer part of my ideal diet.
You could make the result of a beer diet your ideal.
"... part of this nutritious breakfast."
wouldn't it be easier to change your taste buds so that carrots taste like pizza?
So, basically you should go paleo, but that varies depending on what's your ascendance
I wish they had gone into what genetic markers got assigned to which diet types, but that might be a bit too much for the BBC. A quick search of Google Scholar is not turning up a likely candidate for the paper.
