Ask HN: Will biopharma advance as aggressively without inflated US drug prices?
Xtandi(Enzalutamide), a prostate cancer drug is under congressional inquiry as of today. It's a big deal. It could be a move to change the way drugs are priced moving forward.
A few politicians just signed an agreement to trying to lower the cost of the drug by enabling the 1980 Bay-Dohle act, which gives the right to the NIH to auto-license a patent if the drug isn't accessible at a "reasonable" price.
The patent for Xtandi, a prostate cancer drug, is owned by Astellas, a Japanese company. The research came out of UCLA from US Army & NIH Grants.
The Japanese Pharma is price gouging Americans: America $127,000.00 Canada $30,000.00 Sweden $29,000.00
The uncomfortable question is whether biopharma will advance without inflated US drug prices.
