go-codec is nice, but in my testing I found it to be slower than Go's encoding/json.

with the `go generate` version as well ?

That I don't know — probably not. Never used it, since my performance issues have always been with raw map[string]interface{} data.

I added `codec` to benchmarks, performance gets unpredictable once record complexity grows.
