Motorola has a ton of patents the invented the cellphone. Kind of sad how hey pretty much are shadow of what they used to be.
Others pushed back too - and were bought off eg. Barnes & Noble and SuSE/Novell.
Sony is still showing middle finger to Microsoft and doesn't pay a dime.
Sony has its own substantial patent portfolio, which makes a big difference.
That being said, I know from personal experience that many Sony Xperia devices support exFAT, which, to me, doesn't sound like they're showing the middle finger to Microsoft at all.
And why didn't Google/Motorola fight the very existence of the patents?
What are you talking about? Google among others has been pretty active in lobbying for changes to the broken patent system
