Win an argument online? Lol!

The real problem, especially on a site like reddit, is that there is no winning.

Even if you have evidence and facts, if you go against groupthink, you will be shouted down, down voted, and ignored.

If you really piss the wrong person off, you will be bullied and could lose your job/career over it.

With regards to groupthink, one of the recommendations is to use the power of groups to convince somebody:

Might isn't right. There are groups for pretty much anything out there, even when it's factually, morally, and ridiculously wrong.

I find it pretty ironic that HN groupthink modded me down for talking about why I don't like groupthink.

The irony isn't lost on anyone, I see.

I think you sound like you have a chip on your shoulder and you feel that armed with facts, your arguments should be persuasive but they're not. I don't have the ability to downvote, but perhaps that's why other people are doing so.

Perhaps you are being down-voted based upon the contempt with which you expressed your opinion, rather than the quality of your point.

Probably your comment was downvoted because it went for drama over substance.

On HN, please don't complain about getting downvoted or about what you think the downvotes demonstrate. This just adds noise, which is why HN has two rules about it:
