One other thing - Enterprises using Apple TV?! What use case is there other than the ubiquitous CNN / BBC news channel that some how seems required for any office these days
We used them in the office in conference rooms to make presentations easier via Airplay. There is a qualifier that we were a startup, though.
We (community college) have them connected to all the overhead projectors in each room. Airplay is also the reason. We are exploring apps and will probably setup a mac with all our videos for play in the classrooms.
The big use case of AppleTVs in enterprises and schools is AirPlay screen mirroring. I'm not surprised when I see an AppleTV in a conference room these days.
From what I understand, there aren't any really simple inexpensive solutions for interactive (or non-interactive) TV displays for use in stores, offices etc. Usually they have a full blown PC running them, which requires a lot more upkeep and management than selecting an app on an Apple TV. The already well established iOS developer tools, means lots of people can also support development of these presentations.
Well, the OP article is about writing a server density dashboard app. I think that's a pretty good example. Any kind of real time metrics and status monitoring would make sense. How about video conferencing? Interactive training material?
These kinds of apps would be appropriate for the platform, but you have to take into account the input from the user. Training material would need to be navigated with a remote (or a game controller) and for a video conf. app, you'd need a separate camera (so far, the USB port is not accessible, so it would need to be a bluetooth/wifi camera, most likely an iPhone)
AppleTV + MacBooks and/or AirParrot for screen casting.
Does the latest AppleTV support enterprise wifi? I don't believe so (unless something has changed in the past few months).
It supports all the same wifi as any other iOS device, which is to say, yes. What has been a problem with the AppleTV in the enterprise is that Bonjour, which drives AirPlay, has a hard time with spanning subnets. So, as most enterprises would do, having wifi be on a different subnet from Ethernet, which is also how your stationary AppleTV is probabably on the network, makes letting the two devices see each other somewhat of a challenge.
