NYT had an interesting calculator on rent vs buy a while back: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/upshot/buy-rent-calc...

I loved this calculator when they first issued it, (2012ish?) but now they've revamped it and it takes up too much space for whatever functionality they added.

Found it! The advanced panel, the simple graphics, highlighting the parallel rolls of expected rate of Rent increase vs Home price appreciation and making it a slider! Much usability, minimal space.

This is the exact reason I support Archive.org...well that and occasionally it helps with work stuff.
