Google creating a Zip Code API?

I doubt it. The DNS is pointed to one of Google's servers (any-in-2415.1e100.net) which displays the 404.

Whois data:

Domain Name: ZIPAPI.COM Registrar: MONIKER

Registrant [304045]: WWP Domains Greenwich 2000 5482 Wilshire Boulevard Suite 141 Los Angeles CA 90036 US

It's just someone pointing their domain to Google. There are most likely thousands of domains like this.

When large companies (Google, Apple, Microsoft) register secret domains, they tend to do so professionally. I don't think any product has been leaked in recent history due to an amateur DNS screw up.

its not zip api, its zi papi :) the ze russians :)

1. Buy a domain and point it to Google

2. Spread rumors to get lots of people to link to it

3. Point the domain back to your own site

4. ???

5. Profit!
