I suspect they're never going to go completely away. I still like to keep a set in my car in case my phone is dead and can't charge it from the car for whatever reason. I believe the Navy is adding celestial navigation back into their curriculum in case their electronic systems are compromised. There's still a lot of use cases where the low-tech solution is a good backup.
