Ask HN: How is my government blocking images and videos on Twitter?
I am in Ecuador, today we have a crucial debate where a package of constitutional amendments will be approved (all of them are quite medieval like declaring that all communications are a public service). Anyway, I am trying to understand how do they block selected images and videos. All blocked assets give 504 errors like this one for example:
GET https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CVTvltlXIAAWbEH.jpg 504 (Gateway Timeout)
Do they have a proxy installed where traffic from given CDNs is tunneled before entering local ISPs and they actually "watch, select and dump" the images/videos that need to be blocked?
Is Twitter involved?
