Economics as a science is just a backup major for people who failed the maths requirement for Operations Research. Economics isn't so much a science as a study of ethics regarding asset allocation. There is nothing ambiguous about a disagreement on what is ethical in any situation. That is fundamentally a non-sciency thing and just a disagreement of personal opinion.
As long as the leaders in the field accept that Econ is held to be "value free" and that science and reason are divorced from defining values then, yes, the field is lost.
To reclaim the field requires a revolution in philosophy and more specifically, ethics. Any takers over on evonomics.com?
