The best path is to pro-actively google your model Macintosh with Ubuntu (version number) and another with Fedora (version number) and see what pops up in compatibility issues and resolutions. Really, its pretty much that easy to figure out.
Xubuntu "looks nicer", but Fedora is more familiar to us CentOS users on the server side.
