Ask HN: Are there any statistics on the Bay Area talent crunch?

I keep reading about how hard it is to find talented developers in the Bay Area and how easy it is to find work if you happen to be one.

I was wondering if any one has studied the issue (recruiting companies, HR departments of large companies, universities etc) and come out with numbers regarding how many people are needed for such roles, how many engineers are colleges turning out and so on.
