Using LaTex is less efficient than using "Word", according to this study. LaTex users are reported as more satisfied than "Word" users, however, which goes along with the results of this study: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/summary?doi=10.1.1.418.... That is, efficiency, effectiveness and satisfaction are rarely all measured in the same experiment, and when they are, they don't correlate.

Yeah, LaTeX pretty much covers this out of the box. Throw in bibtex and git and the bibliographic stuff and collaboration is done too, and probably done better. I guess this misses "cut-and-paste is replaced with drop-n-drag", but you could probably find a text editor that does that if you want.

Throw in emacs+auctex and latexdiff and I'm staying put for the time being.

if they acknowledged LaTeX it wouldn't be a very good advertisement for their system
