Why does a stylus need bluetooth? I thought it interacted with the display much like a finger (just more precise). Unless they are using thermal touch sensors?

Styluses often have interaction mechanisms other than the pointer (e.g., the button on Samsung's "S-Pen".)
Most stylus' have at least one additional button (on a Surface Pro, there's 3).
