With all the negativity towards DevOps over here, it makes me wonder if getting my hands into DevOps is worth the effort.

Also, why do you care what people think? If you can solve problems then someone will pay you money to solve problems. Continue to advance your problem solving abilities and you'll never be out of a job, DevOps or otherwise. Just to get the point across one more time: Stop caring what HN or any other place says about technology in general and just continue to advance your skills regardless of anyone's opinion.
expect salaries around 150K to 190K if you are a good Admin who transitioned to devops. :) times are great.
