Ask HN: What to do to get remote work?
Hey Hacker News, I am a Canadian going to community college for web programming. They teach us responsive Web Dev with PHP along with some IOS and Android and Im good with git and the cli. I have 2 classes each of the 2 more semesters until I graduate. The commute is rounding to around 3 hours total but I’m only in school 2/3 days a week.
I don't currently have a job but I have savings to last at least 1-2 months and would like to be able to work from home for an hourly rate at around $15-20 an hour to avoid the brutal commute to other lower paying work.
Could someone that have gone through this before layout what I need to do. I am willing to go through online resources like Harvard CS50 and Free Code Camp or others for a few weeks if necessary. I basically have no clue where to get started but I’m really motivated to start working and have a bit of time to set it all up right.
If you think it would be better to switch to Rails or Node also let me know, I can pick up something new fairly quickly.
